“The ANH Patch” – Garden Space in Ararat
Thanks to a grant obtained from the Pacific Hydro Sustainable Communities Fund 2019, Ararat Neighbourhood House plans to expand its Food Hub program by redeveloping the backyard into an interactive garden space with a ‘community’ fruit & veg patch that we are calling “The ANH Patch”.
“The ANH Patch” will be a fully inclusive and accessible garden space where community members are welcome to come and grow their own produce, share conversation and skills in a friendly, welcoming and relaxed environment.
In line with our aim of “towards zero food insecurity”, ensuring that more people in our community have access to healthy food options (1), it is envisaged that The ANH Patch, coupled with our cooking classes, will form an extension of our pivotal “Food Hub” program. Teaching people valuable skills in growing their own fresh produce, and preparing healthy, nutritious and tasty meals.
We are currently seeking volunteers to help out in “The ANH Patch” and a range of other programs including: our Food Hub, Art Programs, Cooking Program and more.

Ararat Rural City is in the 15th percentile of the Index of Relative Socio-economic Disadvantage (IRSD). (1) This translates into 6% of people in the past 12 months who have run out of food, or not been able to afford food, compared to the Victorian average of 4.7%. (1)
